LISTENING WITH STYLE Detroit’s Shinola launches line of headphones Shinola being located next to Third Man Records on Canfield in Detroit is probably in no small way related to the fact that they are now making ultra-stylish headphones. Known for its design of watches, bicycles and leather goods, Shinola is now continuing its support of people’s love of music (started by its turntable division) with a series of four headphones. Launched in November 2017, the aptly-named The Canfield Headphone Collection was designed and developed in Detroit. Driven by its belief in “how it’s made matters, that how things look, feel and sound, matters,” The Canfield adds to a range of Shinola Audio goods (Runwell Turntable, Bookshelf Speakers) that are distinctive in their design detail. It’s no surprise, then, that the collection’s introduction was two years in the making, with Shinola’s inhouse team engineering the products that are infused with its famed craftsmanship. Using the same high-quality materials, finishes, and processes that are employed by Shinola in making its watches, The Canfield “sound signature is rich, warm, and expansive,” yielding an approach to personal listening that the company says is "anything but disposable.” “This introduction is special,” said Shinola’s founder, Tom Kartsotis. “It speaks to our love of music and craft and it speaks to the soul of Detroit. It is rare that one product can capture and transmit this much emotion and be so much fun to share. People always smile when they hold the headphones, feel the quality and then listen. It has taken us a while to make it feel right, to make the steel and leather details and the sound all come together. We are so proud of this effort from our audio team. Their tireless efforts have created a product that personifies what Shinola has come to stand for.” The new collection consists of four styles: The Canfield Over-Ear, The Canfield On-Ear, The Canfield Pro In-Ear Monitor, and The Canfield In-Ear Monitor. All can be found in Shinola stores, as well as online (at www.shinola.com). Prices range from $195 for The Canfield In-Ear Monitor to $650 for The Canfield Over-Ear Headphones in black PVD. If you’re yearning for a close-up and personal experience with your favorite tunes, The Canfield Headphone Collection may be the answer for you – and you’ll do it all in style.
